Preparing LEET
Karnataka Diploma Common Entrance Test (DCET) is the official lateral entry examination conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for diploma holders seeking admission directly into the second year (third semester) of B.E. and B.Tech programs across Karnataka. It is one of the most competitive lateral entry examinations in South India and serves as the primary pathway for diploma students aspiring to pursue higher technical education. DCET provides admission opportunities in government engineering colleges, aided institutions, university departments, and private engineering colleges throughout Karnataka. Students can secure seats in popular branches such as Computer Science Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science, Information Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and emerging interdisciplinary programs. The examination evaluates candidates on Engineering Mathematics, Statistics and Analytics, Information Technology Skills, Fundamentals of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Project Management Skills. The syllabus is designed around diploma-level concepts and assesses analytical ability, technical knowledge, and engineering aptitude. The examination is conducted in offline mode and forms a crucial component of the admission process. One of the major advantages of DCET is that diploma students can complete their engineering degree in three years instead of four by entering directly into the second year. Graduates admitted through DCET become eligible for placements, higher studies, research opportunities, government jobs, and examinations such as GATE, PSU recruitment, and postgraduate engineering programs. The counseling process includes online registration, document verification, option entry, seat allotment, fee payment, and reporting to the allotted institution. Due to strong industry growth in Bengaluru and Karnataka's technology ecosystem, DCET remains highly preferred among diploma graduates across the country.
Candidates should possess a recognized engineering diploma from an approved institution. Eligible diploma holders can apply for lateral entry admission to B.E./B.Tech programs through KEA according to the prevailing admission rules.
