Maharashtra Direct Second Year Engineering (DSE), also known as Direct Second Year B.E./B.Tech Admission, is one of India's largest lateral entry admission systems for diploma holders. The admission process is conducted through the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell and allows eligible candidates to secure direct admission into the third semester of engineering degree programs without repeating the first year. The DSE admission process provides diploma graduates with an opportunity to complete a B.E. or B.Tech degree in just three additional years. Candidates can obtain admission in government engineering colleges, government-aided institutions, autonomous colleges, university departments, and private engineering colleges across Maharashtra. Popular branches available through Maharashtra DSE include Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Robotics and Automation, Mechatronics, Data Science, and emerging interdisciplinary engineering programs. Maharashtra is home to major technology and industrial hubs including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, and Aurangabad. Students admitted through DSE benefit from strong industry exposure, internship opportunities, startup ecosystems, placement programs, and access to leading multinational companies. The admission process generally includes online registration, document verification, publication of merit lists, option form filling, CAP counseling rounds, seat allotment, fee payment, and admission confirmation. Due to the state's strong engineering ecosystem and large number of participating colleges, Maharashtra DSE remains one of the most searched lateral entry admission processes in India.
Candidates should possess a Diploma in Engineering and Technology from a recognized institution approved by AICTE or an equivalent authority. Certain categories of B.Sc. graduates with Mathematics may also be eligible according to the admission regulations issued by the State CET Cell. Admission is primarily based on diploma merit and centralized counseling procedures.
