Uttar Pradesh B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission
Uttar Pradesh B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission is one of the largest engineering admission systems for diploma holders in India. The admission process enables eligible diploma and certain B.Sc. Mathematics graduates to secure direct admission into the second year of B.Tech programs offered by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), state universities, government engineering colleges, and private engineering institutions across Uttar Pradesh. In recent admission cycles, lateral entry admissions have been integrated with the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) framework and are increasingly linked with national-level admission mechanisms such as CUET-based processes and centralized counseling systems. Candidates should always refer to the latest UPTAC notification for current admission criteria and counseling guidelines. The admission process attracts thousands of diploma holders every year due to the large number of engineering colleges participating under AKTU and other universities. Popular branches include Computer Science Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and emerging interdisciplinary specializations. Students admitted through lateral entry complete their B.Tech degree in three years while gaining access to internships, placements, research opportunities, government jobs, startup ecosystems, and higher education programs.
Candidates generally must possess a three-year Diploma in Engineering and Technology from a recognized institution. Certain B.Sc. graduates with Mathematics may also be eligible under prevailing admission regulations. Minimum qualifying marks are prescribed by UPTAC and participating institutions.
